I think it means"Stab"! The other figure is not an"11",rather a Roman 2,i.e."II"!

I see II/Pz.R.6 St.II

So the first II should be a company, but why Roman style. And why then St.II? Wouldn't Stab come first and without II?

Also curious.

Hello,

not an expert in Panzer units, but maybe this helps nonetheless.

Mostly You find in these unit-stamps an arabic number for the company. Roman numbers like here denote a Bataillon. So it is 2nd Bataillon of the Regiment. As far as I know, equipment was kept at company-level and not bataillon-level. This problem is solved by the mention of St(ab), so this strap belonged to staff of 2nd Bataillon. The scond "II" at the end is a Garniturstempel. Do not know the english equivalent. Mint pieces which came to the company's depot were stamped with I (= erste Garnitur). When the preservation of the piece was getting worse it received a second "I" at the next inspection, making a "II" (= zweite Garnitur). This procedure was continued with III, IIII until the piece was mustered out. This has even become proverbial in German, e.g. saying about an excellent sportsman that he gehört (belongs) zur ersten Garnitur. If his best times have passed by, he belongs only to the Zweite Garnitur.

The stamp next to the maker mark is the inspection stamp of the Heeresbekleidungsamt, which inspected the item received from the manufaturerer before it went to the unit. In this case we have "B" for Berlin and the year 36.

Thanks Johannes you are a star ,that is very interesting about the stampings the worse the condition the more I 's. I is good IIII is bad .So many stamps just for one bread bag ,its quite amazing ,Rob

Johannes is quite right about the unit mark:

II/PzR6 is II. Abteilung/ Panzer-Regiment 6 (Panzer units had Abteilungen not Bataillone)

Incidently, Panzer-Regiment 6 was part of the 3. Panzer-Division, and fought at Kursk in July 1943... http://www.lexikon-der-wehrmacht.de/...menter/PR6.htm
