    Question/wanted etc..

    Hi,

I would like to restore the elastic straps of a fighterpilot mask..
    That ain't easy..
Where to find the ( almost) right elastic strap..
The original upper strap looks like there were 2 small straps sewn together ,leaving a space for the small rubber knob..
The lower strap was the same ,but with the space sewn in a special way to go through a little loop ,which kept it in place..

I think making the straps exactly the same is almost impossible..,but a "look a like" would do..
The elastic strap is about 3 cm /1 1/4 inch in width..
If anyone has vintage elastic strap that looks like this or other looking strap that would do ,I would like to buy some..

Or.., other tips where to get it ,maybe ..?
Only elastic strap covered with cotton ,no nylon..

    Jos.

This is what I have..,it was found..

      Hoi Jos,
what about the elastic strap than can be found on post-war para knee and elbow pads?
If you can't find any I'll try and look for them next may in Milan....let me know!

        Hi manuel...or is it michael..?

If you think you know something that looks like it..go ahead..
The original strap is rather thin ,like on the original flight goggles ,(not motor goggles )..it has to go twice through the wire buckles ,which are rather small..
The length for a strap is about 22 cm total..,color green or dark grey..,something like that..
Consider it's just for a few pieces of strap..,no more..

          Ciao Jos,
could you please tell me exactly the width of the straps?I think I have a pair of FJ kneepads without straps and if I remember well I managed and find some straps which were similar to the originals but which I've never found the time to sew on,if I find them you can consider them yours.....THE STRAPS !

              Hi Josephine,
I'll go and rummage into my boxes and look for those pads!
As soon as I'll find them I'll send you the straps.....providing you'll remember my name!
              Tot ziens buddy
