    Help needed in identifying this hanger!

    I picked up two German leather items identified to me as a "pair of sword hangers". One was the standard brown leather type. The other is the one pictured below. It appears to have held something for along time. But has anyone seen a hanger like this? It is nicely maker marked and dated 1936.

    What would it have held and how was it worn? Thanks in advance!
