    German WW2 boot sizes.

    Hi,

Can anyone help with a comparison of German wartime issue boot sizes with present day sizes?

    Thanks
    Taff

Wartime issue german boots show the size in centimeters, e.g "27" or "28" are the most common ones.

As for today sizes, I wear a 43.5, and a wartime "30" fits me.

Good for you, David - your chances in finding fitting Wehrmacht-boots are much better...

Thanks for the advice. I've got a pair of sentry over boots with a size stamp of 31. What size boots would fit into these?

              I found this table online:

              <table width="75%" border="1" bordercolor="#ffffff" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"> <tbody> <tr> <td width="100%">
              <table width="100%" border="1" bordercolor="#000000" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"> <tbody> <tr> <td width="33%" align="center" bgcolor="#c0c0c0">USA</td> <td width="33%" align="center" bgcolor="#c0c0c0">"European"</td> <td width="34%" align="center" bgcolor="#c0c0c0">"German"</td> </tr> <tr> <td width="33%" align="center">size 7½</td> <td width="33%" align="center">40</td> <td width="34%" align="center">27</td> </tr> <tr> <td width="33%" align="center">size 8</td> <td width="33%" align="center">41</td> <td width="34%" align="center">27.5</td> </tr> <tr> <td width="33%" align="center">size 8½</td> <td width="33%" align="center">42</td> <td width="34%" align="center">28</td> </tr> <tr> <td width="33%" align="center">size 9</td> <td width="33%" align="center">43</td> <td width="34%" align="center">28.5</td> </tr> <tr> <td width="33%" align="center">size 9½</td> <td rowspan="2" width="33%" align="center">44</td> <td width="34%" align="center">29</td> </tr> <tr> <td width="33%" align="center">size 10</td> <td width="34%" align="center">29.5</td> </tr> <tr> <td width="33%" align="center">size 10½</td> <td rowspan="2" width="33%" align="center">45</td> <td width="34%" align="center">30</td> </tr> <tr> <td width="33%" align="center">size 11</td> <td width="34%" align="center">30.5</td> </tr> <tr> <td width="33%" align="center">size 11½</td> <td width="33%" align="center">46</td> <td width="34%" align="center">31</td> </tr> <tr> <td width="33%" align="center">size 12</td> <td width="33%" align="center">47</td> <td width="34%" align="center">31.5</td></tr></tbody></table>

I would not agree with this online table. I wear european size 44 and german size 29 1/2 is a lot large to me ( I've got german m43 ankle boots in this size) but its fit almost perfectly to friend of mine who is wearing european size 45 or 46.
each size in this table should on size up in euorpean sizes in campare to period geramn size.

It seems to me that there is some disagreement over modern sizes compared to wartime German sizes. Does anyone else know of a comparison chart similar to the one Landsknachte put up?

As I understand it, sentry boots were stamped with the size of the boot they were designed to accommodate, not the size of the overshoe itself. So a 31 marked sentry boot will fit over a 31 sized regular boot.

                        Boot size

I know europe is on the metric system but would it be plausible for a German boot to marked with a "1/2" size suffix in any case not ".5"

I believe I had seen this before somewhere on a website that was deemed acceptable, or I would assume this is an automatic red flag?

                        Thanks
