It migh be more interesting a conversation piece if you just leave it the way it is. I am sure it is possible to get it partly back into shape if you use the proper methodes. Such a pitty thow, it looks like a very nice piece...

I went to friend yesterday, who works in a Cargarage, and the panelbeater there looked cannister and told me,that because of all the badly foldings on the can and the lid,it would be impossible to get it into proper shape, and sadly it would'nt be worse trying, but we managed to get the mask liberated and thank God,it was not damaged at all,and it turned out to be one of the better ones.

      here is the mask.
      Cheers

This could have been a mint gasmask

          Hi Gary

if you are looking for a gas mask filter, you will find them at Beltring.
I bought 1 last year at a very reasonable price (I think it was £8).
          There were loads of them.

Could be the picture, but the material making up the mask looks kind of grainy or something? Also, what is that round dark thing on the side of the mask? Is that usually found on ww2 masks?

                Hi,

It's a nice Navymask IMO ,I'm not sure.., scarce ,...,I would keep all things together and find myself a Navy canister to complete it again..

Although damaged a very nice find..

                Here's a link ,I guess it's in there somewhere...

Indeed this is a terrible shame.

Being for a soldier of the Kreigsmarine, it makes perfect sense that there'd be a rubber ring to seal the lid. Pretty nice- if it hadn't been destroyed.

                      What's he sayin ?

Yes, that's a pity, but the named straps, gas mask and accessories will find a new minty container one day or the other, I'm sure. They deserve it...
The item was saved despite the accident, and that's still a luck IMO.

                        Hi Chris,
you're right,it's still sort of luck but it wouldn't be the same!
