    MG Spare Barrel Carrier

Gene had posted a green spare barrel carrier on a thread showing a FJ smock, so I thought I would start a thread on these.

This is an ordnance tan MG42 barrel carrier. It is marked on one end Lauf schützer 43 brc.

Mike, I have not seen them on ebay. Will take a look. I am sure nations used carriers after the war. They might have even copied them. I would foucs on the markings and the paint. These, will a fair amount of paint, straps and in ordnance tan, have been rather scarce over the years. If the ones on ebay are legit, I wonder where they are coming from.

          Mike/Willi,

Beware the Yugoslav painted carriers(a very distinct shade of light green) I think the Yugoslavs used both wartime repainted and post war made(same pattern as WWII German). Also a lot of the Norwegian National Guard units used ex Wehrmacht stocks of 34 and 42 pieces post war, a lot are now turning up on the collector market. I have a German marked double barrel carrier that was post war repainted by the Norwegians. Original painted carriers be they in German Green or Ordnance Tan are hard to come by.

          Cheers

          Mark

Wartime barrel carriers pop up all the time, with postwar puke green paint and replaced web straps. These are the ones often offered for sale on ebay and dealer's sites.

Damien, turn your 'caps lock' off when you reply.. Posting in capitals means you're shouting...

I sold my field gray double carrier (with barrels) to Ray Embree about 15 years ago when I got away from field equipment. Only have ever seen two for sale in 30+ years and only about two in collections.

It is in a great collection - but now that the topic came up, I have those pangs of wishing I never sold it.

There was also the single barrel carrier. This one ordnance tan. I recall it was dated 44. The strap is not the original strap, but rather was a leather strap marked SA in a square - so Finnisg. Evidence I guess that it was added post war or used by the Finnish at some point. I picked it up at the old Baltimore Gun Show in the 70's. Have no idea wher it went.
