    German SS Gamel

Who can tell me more about this Gamel?
I became this together with another standard german gamel this weekend.
I've just cleaned them and found some text.

It has the name Sepp Pfeiffer (SS-USCHA).
Beneath his name I see I think his personal number?

It says too: 1. PZ. DIV. 1. SS-PZ. (and something I can't read) ABT. 1. KOMP.

And someone knows what III. LA. means?

Anyone can help me with it?

    Thanks,

I would recommend to post the number (which could be his fieldpost-nr. as well) in the "Wehrpass, Soldbooks and military IDs" forum

Thanks, I will do that tomorrow, then I make a close-up from it too.

It's no Fieldpost I think, it says the following:

        PFEIFFER
        SEPP
        6306525
        PW. NO

I don't know what PW means, maybe PassWord?

        Thanks,

        Tim

I rather think PW means PRISONER OF WAR

Not sure what all of the text is about, but I like it, an interesting piece of history. I especially like that is has Nuremberg scribed into it....

              Cool find!

Well, since it says Abteilung 1, it must be one of these:

                SS Flak Artillerie-Abteilung 1
                SS Nebelwerfer-Abteilung 1
                SS Sturmgeschütz-Abteilung 1
                SS Panzer-Aufklärungs-Abteilung 1
                SS Panzerjäger-Abteilung 1
                SS Panzer-Nachrichten-Abteilung 1

And for the "III. LA." part, i tent to go to an artillerie batterie since they used roman numbers for that.
So that would be "3. batterie LA." Maybe LA means Leichte Artillerie?

                  Hello Rick,

                  thanks that could be it.
But it says that he was in SS panzer too, or maybe he did both?

                  Cheers,

Both, if you put Panzer before something, like artillerie or Aufklärung.
It becomes PanzerArtillerie or PanzerAufklärung, and thats mechanized.
So he probally was in a mechanized artillerie unit.
For example, the Wespe was a Panzer Artillerie vehicle.

It's clearly recording his time in captivity and III LA i'd say was III Lager
Collecting German award documents, other paperwork and photos relating to Norway and Finland.
