What about this special shaped D-ring. Is it used for fixing the medical canteen on the belt?

Ciao dear Jan, I'd like to re-call again this 3d because I also remeber that discussion but, as I recall well, that claim has never been proven.

Well, now have a look here:

        http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=642695

There is for sale a super nice DRK canteen with BLACK paintend leather.

And now have a look here:

This is one picture of my focused collection about canteens.......what can we see there? A nice eraly medic canteen without hook and with light brown leather straps......now, I'm a crazy or this one is a man and not a DRK female ones?
What I want to say? IMO, the medic canteens with light brawn straps (but also with black straps) was certainly used by the medic unit of the Wehrmacht (this picture speak clear) and probably also from others.
BTW, we are still looking to see this book about the female of the DRK.

              Hello Giancarlo,

I understand You perfectly True is that canteens with brown leather harness are BELIEVED to be DRK/non WH. There is no evidence for that.

What lured my attention is cross strap shown on the period picture enclosed by You- it looks more like tailored from webbing, same as WWI canteens are. Fantastic picture!

My dear friend, are you sure? If there is no evidence, why I have to change my mind?

Interesting what you saying, but IMO this is a normal sani canteen with light brown leather straps. And, at last, what is your opinion about the nice canteen on e-estand?

Giancarlo, thanks for your follow up!

Please don't pin me on this matter. To have solid prove, maybe better to call in the collector who stated the colour versus gender theory? All I can say is that member Albertcher knows his branche. Hence if a specialised DRK collector state such detailed rule on public forum we can expect it is done in good faith, no?

As I'm sure you know that regulations on paper and regulations in the field/end of war/ etc were not always the same.

The brown one in the picture could be DRK indeed, which means that the canteen was initially DRK, could be perfectly no? Anyway, I don't have good eyes but it looks like the harness around the canteen is black though...

Concerning the canteen on Estand; 'stock from WH' distributed by DRK lager?

I keep an open mind but I still prefer a canteen with black harness and metal hook (I don't care for the DRK lager markings) over a brown one with no hook.

Still much more canteens with brown harness and without hooks (& have DRK depot markings) I have encountered.

At the end I'm not a DRK collector.

                  Take care

                  Jan

                    Hello Collectors,

i just can repeat some things on this topic for what i have historical evidence. All i can say that i collect DRK stuff... so this is the point of view i regard things.

                    1. Original brown leather bottles: I have some with "DRK Sanitätslager Babelsberg", i have some with just a producer (CFL and year e.g.) and i have some without any markings.
Especially for the first mentioned there can be no doubt about its origin...
                    2. Original black leather bottles: I have some with markings and i have one with DRK stamps on it.
                    3. DRK manuals: The DRK manuals clearly state that black leather is for male units, brown leather is for female units. Have a look at the Dv. Nr. 1 there is lsited everything... also have a look at DRK "paybooks" (Verwendungsbuch). Of course you will find exceptions from this rules
                    4. Pictures: Always show things that by manual, rule... are NOT possible

I saw some pics of LW or Heer members wearing SS-camouflage clothes... but no one ever would discuss the SS origin of the clothes...

And for the books someone mentioned below... have a look a the french Militaria Magazine, issue 314, 321 and 330... especially in No. 314 you can find some information on the gear of female DRK members. I also included some pics...

Thanks so far for reading! And sorry for my harsh posting here some time ago!
