A couple of web items for analysis

Hi guys

I was given this web strap today, that came with an interesting story. I thought some of you would like to analyse the markings and stuff. Am I correct that this strap was for attaching the mess tin to a backpack or sturmgepaeck?

I only took one photo of this thing, is it a Sturmgepäck? Any comments on the type, rarity, etc, are welcome.

Hello Jean-Loup,
The strap is a tropical/late war variant for non mounted personnel, mainly used to hold the rolled Zeltbahn to the belt (it has other uses). Theorically three of them were issued to each foot soldier.
The A-frame is an interesting piece of fieldgear, it is made of internal removable straps for Feldblusen. Its german name is not Sturmgepäck, The Sturmgepäck is something else. This piece is called Gefechtsgepäck. The Sturmgepäck can be a lot of thing, in fact it is the list of items a soldier must carry while on the field/in action....this list was adopted in 1938...but without specify how the item should be carried.

The man who had all this stuff told me he used to play with it as a kid, wich explains some of the strange configurations or added on straps I think.

Very briefly, the story is that all the items above were taken (by the kid, who is now a bit older) from a german car that had been attacked by french partisans, killing or wounding all the occupants. I am not willing to post more details on the internet for now though.
The man said he had always liked military equipments, but that he didnt like them so much any more after coming back from the war in Algeria.

Would more photos be possible of the web strap at the top of your A-frame? The one that was commented as not looking very WW2.

This small bit of strap at the top is a cut down Soviet wartime equipment strap.

That is very interesting information. I guess it really was found in the german car with the rest of the stuff then, and the germans had brought it back from the eastern front. Soviet stuff isnt exactly a very common find in southern France.

It depends where in southern France
As many Osstruppen unit were based or did stay for a while in the southwest of France, you can frenquently find russian equipments issued to them beside german ones. Ammunition pouches, bags, boots, mapcases, belts, straight shovels & covers, pistols & holsters, Mosin rifles & bayos, a lot of stuff used to be found on fleamarkets...or in farms, barns, cellars etc....especially where fights did occur with the partisans. Now you find less stuff of course...but find some russian stuff in Ariège, Tarn, Tarn & Garonne, Hautes-Pyrénées, Haute-Garonne, Lot, Lot & Garonne, Pyrénées-Atlantiques, Pays-Basque, Gironde, Dordogne and more wouldn't be so uncommon...IMO

I meant south eastern France, around Nice, where I live. As far as I know not many russians were here with the German troops; just a few individuals within units. But I have personaly never found any russian stuff here in the woodwork.

this little webbing strap in question looks to me like bundeswehr gas mask strap cut down.

I guess it will need more photos for a final conclusion then; but I doubt it is a bundeswehr strap.
