German Blanket gray with black stripes

Hi Guys, I bought a collection of equipment a few days ago and this blanket was in there. The guys was using it with his pony pack and thought it was a German one. It's maybe 180cm x 158cm. The sides with the stripes are sewn by machine with lock stitch. The other ends are not sewn, as they naturally finished as the beginning and ending of the weave? The color is gray, but has lots of little specks of color mixed in. Your thoughts and opinions welcome.

    Thanks,

    Gerard

PS- Can I sell it as SS, since it has black stripes?

    Hi Gerard,
as several types of blankets were used by the Wehrmacht, i think this could be an original one, it looks OK!

    Regards

      Looks fine to me.
Regarding the material, I would say this is a mid-war piece. Earlier pieces did not feature so much filling yarn as encountered in mid-war examples, such as this one. I have an identical example, which I am comfortable with, as I know where it came from.

Wartime photos show a wide variety of blankets in use. This one looks the part.

I have one nearly identical to this one, except that it is Luftwaffe blue with dark blue stripes. I was told it was original WW2, but I have also been told that it is 1950s West German.
