    K43 Pouch

I've had this pouch for about a year and believe its original. Its referered to as the type 5 pouch in the book Hitlers Garands. The unusual thing about it, is its marked in 2 places.I believe one or both markings may have been added postwar to enhance its appeal to collectors. In Hitlers Garand the author mentions an original pouch with postwar markings that was offered through a well known auction house. Any comments good or bad are welcomed. Heres the first picture.

            Hi Jim,

Tough call on the markings. Not sure why anyone would add one, since they indicate different makers. Have you looked up the codes? But, I think the pouch looks good. I see the proper construction and wear points. And, I agree that they are likely type 5 pouches, based on Weaver's book. Nice natural leather look.

              Hi Willi,

I'm fairly confident the pouch is real. Cllaus Espeholt has a similar pouch on his site with the SKL code plus WAA stamp. I think mine also has a WAA but its too faint to read. Claus' pouch doesn't have rivets though or second set of stamps. He presumes his is original.

Also on the site he has an original pouch with the maker mark stamped on the rear and another 3 letter code stamped in purple ink like mine. The two codes are also different. He assumes that the ink stamp is postwar.

As far as the maker marks I can find no reference to SKL or HOLS.

I can't find any explanation for the two different sets of stamps.Jim

I too could not break the codes down, they were not listed. I agree the pouch looks original, it is the style seen pictured in the late-war K43 manuals.

Here is my type 2 and type 4, based on Weaver's system. Both are '44 dated.

                    Kim,

Thanks for the link. I'm very familiar with Espeholts site.Best one out there on the K/G 43. I studied his pictures in detail when I decided to buy my pouch. Heres a picture of one of his pouches. Its identical to mine except it doesn't have rivets at the back and no HOLS stamp.Jim
