IMHO , original gasmask , which was painted then left outside recently , fresh rust and more important , the camo paint covering old rust ( the last picture) is not a good sign , to me anyway .

I agree with P-Y,

This is an original can.... but may have been altered with the tan paint to give it some added value......I cant see a can having such heavy rust back in the 40,s and then getting a quick tan sprtiz.

Just my 2 cents.
