Gas mask lid with rubber air seal

    Hello

well in the past little while I have been going through some old photo's and came across this one (not the best), I found the lid and Vasenol foot powder tin near the River Dives in Normandy, 15 years ago , they just happen to be laying on the surface, though I had been told that a year or so before a big hole had been unearthed full of equipment so no doubt this was from there, anyway what was most interesting was the rubber seal around the inside of the lid, I did lift it out and there is a metal ring around the edge of the rubber, which there is a channel for it to sit into, I have been looking for it to take better pic's but I can't find the thing!

I have not yet searched the previous threads if anyone has one the same?

    cheers

      Hi

I also got one with a rubber seal. indeed there is a metal ring which holds the rubber....

They are pretty scarce as far as I know (I got a lot of gas masks and only one with the rubber seal...)

Will have to look for the pictures though.. I'm pretty sure I made some

          Hello,
the rubber & metal seal was standard issue with the M38 gasmask canister from November 1941 (Vfg 26th November 1941). This water/sandproofing measure also included reinforced weldings at the rear and bottom of the canister.
