"I continue to dream that a salt mine full of WWII issue MP44 pouches will appear one day.

But I have always wondered whether the canvas/webbing G43 pouches that were offered in a variety of designs were in fact authentic. It seems that there is some doubt that these type of G43 pouches ever in fact existed."

I don't think that genuine canvas G43 pouches were ever offered for sale or auctioned. But I'm sure they exist - I stricktly believe in Claus Espeholt's information - he is a real expert.
If you perhaps don't know his site yet, here is the link:

About your dream of the MP44 pouches I strongly agree !! I have this dream regularly too !
But to those lucky collectors who already have original MP44 pouches now this would be a nightmare of course !

I'll try to publish pictures of my very few MP44 pouches tomorrow.

I believe in cloth pouches. Green ones to be exact.

Remember that only the later issue ones have turned up over the past few years. Look at the set that Mathieu was selling on the e-stand. Found in the Ardennes. Rare. Not showing up from the east.

I agree with those who say grab them now! The ones featured on this thread were $350 when they were first discovered. Like everything else which have shown up in greater numbers (Luftwaffe tropical straps come to mind) they will one day begin to slowly disappear from the market.

I too wish for MP44 pouches to be found in great numbers! All I want is one set!

        Hi Willi,
thanks a lot for your comments and your support concerning the canvas variation.
Oh YES, Mathieu's pouch was a delight but was an MP44 pouch. I haven't seen canvas G43 ones for sale by now and never had one in hands myself....
But referring to Claus Espeholt I intensely believe in the existence of these canvas G43s.
Perhaps one of our fellow-collectors has one to show here !?
The first G43 pouches I bought & coming from the Ukraïne were even more than $ 350.- ! But I don't regret having bought them at that time-
no one could know that there were so many. I'm glad for the boys from the East who were at the source - a good opportunity to earn some money with great stuff !!

I saw that one! But, he is/ was also selling a leather K43 pouch.

Ferd, my first set of Ersatz pouches cost me $700 back in 1990. They were used and I picked them up from the veteran along with a scoped "qve45" K43. Back then it was the only set I had ever seen for sale.

            Willi,

the first original single G43 "Ersatz"-mat. pouch I saw and touched was back in 1981!
I was visiting friends in Sartell, Minnesota and happened to go to a Militaria show in MN.
The pouch was $ 380.- , unaffordable for me at that time ! I only had $ 1.100.- with me for the whole trip of 1 month to the US !
            No Credit Card yet....

            Different times.....
