The large square nails around the heel look very similar to Italian hobnails. The R marked nails are British Ammo boot nails. Here is the only source I know for these at the moment http://www.leprevo.co.uk/photos/hob_nail.html You can see how the shape is the same, but the R marking is not visable. I used these once to re-sole a pair of British ammo boots, and to make a pair of Roman Military Boots.

I think that every scenario is possible...
We know that by the end of the War the Germans had shortage of material, so it could be quite possible to use captured Italian and British hobnails....and use them for replacements, due the German ones were out of stock...Who knows....
