    MP40 pouch, the perfect copy?

I thought I had seen it all, but this one really has me stunned!
Absolutely everything adds up on this beautiful pouch, except for one detail! Ok, the rivet on the D-ring strap at the back is unusual and strange, but still plausible for a 1943 dated item. The leather is perfect, the aging is perfect, the wear (what little can be seen) is perfect. It even has the red lines for guidance when attaching the different pieces..there is just one little detail that is off. And I tend to be willing to find an explanation that will explain it away. This one MUST be good..... The WaA14 even matches the maker, as does the sewing technique!
    Let me know your thoughts!

You are right, everything is correct, this is an original wartime poduced pouch! I have the same example just in better condition. I know what detail you are talking about and must say that spelling mistakes did happen

    Thanks,
    Michael

      Hello
I agree , this one is 100% original , I have the same one , from the same maker , seems they were the only one to do their pouches that way .
But , if you do not like it , I will be happy to take it from you
If fakes ever get that good , we will be swimming in poop

Michael, you got it right in the first go! And I am very pleased to find out that I haven't gone mad as a hatter just yet! The pouch is perfect in every way, except for the makers mark, that is WAAAAY off! With German Gründigkeit, how can you make a makers stamp with a spelling error in the name of the manufacturer!! The stamp on the belt loop actually reads "Koberstsin" instead of "Koberstein".
I have been unable to find other items made by the same producer in 1943 to see if the same mistake can be seen on other products. The full name stamping (which should have been discontinued in 1940) always seems to be "Otto Koberstein, Landsberg a. W. + year" on all products, except for G43 pouches. These have no year-stamping. The use of upper and lower case is also inconsistent, depending on the item they made. Ref. the above mentioned G43 pouch!

            P-Y!
If you have the opposite side I would of course be willing to help you out! (but you do not need 2 identical pouches??)
Seriously! I have 25 single pouches and maybe starting a MP40-pouch-swapping-thread might be an idea!?

              Mine from the same maker.

Only the end of the leather is different and of course the colour....

This pouch below does not belong to me.
I would be very happy to own your example

                  Hi Bergflak

A very interesting observation. The aging looks good enough to have fool me...
                  Thanks!

My computerscreen doesn't quite show me the full details from your picture, but I think I see the same error..?

Yes, undoubtably the same maker, but not the same year. Interesting comparison; the ends of the leather tounges are cut differently, and the D-ring strap is attached in a different way. The stamp is "correct" in 1942. Also note the similarities, like how the toungues are sewn to the lids! Some details changed, and some details remained the same from 1942 to 1943 production!
