Does it have both valves (VCL11 and VY2)? I can only see one (VCL11) through the back board, also looks like the original back bolts and washers have been replaced. What ever you do, do not be tempted to plug it in and see if it works, the capacitors will probably be dry and at best nothing will happen. At worst it will catch fire.

If it does work (after careful inspection) be aware that the internal metal chassis is live and the radio should not be used with the backplate removed.

The overall condition of the DKE38 does look very good though.

Often these little radios can be brought into working order by simply replacing all the paper capacitors. The modern capacitor equivalents are often so much smaller than the originals, they can be placed inside the paper housing of the original once its contents have been removed, leaving the period look intact. If one has no care for the look of authenticity one can simply replace all the caps and be done with it. There are websites devoted to antique radio repair/restoration, if interested.

Very nice DKE. In the above old thread i present the repair of mine. Note this was done 10 years ago with the stuff i had available. Now you can buy excellent repro capacitors and you can use real old wires. I just used what i had back then.

I admire your use of the original capacitor tubes, keeps it closer to how it was made.
