    Mess kit unissued or repo

    Guys,
I need opinions on this please... I got this from a estate with a couple of other correct things. Was told it came home with him, however looks too good to be true. I'd like to know what you think.
    Thanks

    Clean one

It looks like a very nice, clean and original mess tin set.

As they are fairly common, albeit often in poor condition here in Germany, I can't imagine why anybody would spend the time and money on the tooling and enamel processes to copy one.

    Nice find.

TD as far as I know no one is reproing these. Too many postwar surplus ones to justify repoping them.

If you want to sell it I would be interested.

          Hi tankdriver
Your mess tin is 100% good, very nice, and hard to find in that condition,

About Repro mess tins,I think they exist,I have attached a photo of one, which I think is a repro,at least the markings are fake, but I dont know about the tin itself, its unused, has these been used by the eastgermans?,only markings are on the top, where its heavely marked LBA.

            Hi TD,

100%. I have an identical one in very similar condition.

            Good Find,

Notice the rings where the wire handle attaches on the one shown by Jorn. This is a post war "police" mess kit that someone has stamped with 1939 etc. The enameled one posted earlier has the correct rings for a ww2 style mess kit.

The rings of tankdrivers Kochgeschirr are correct for late-war and are made of sheet-iron. The earlier ones had rings from cast (?) Aluminium of similiar shape. But these were also used as late as 1944.
