I have wanted to buy a heer zeltbahn for some time now, but I was always paranoid about reproductions. What are some of the basic things I need to look for? Did the postwar German military use and produce zeltbahns? Thanks

zelts
There are in fact repro Heer Zelts. I own four of them which I use for reeanacting. You can tell the differnece in the hardware. The repros utilize a shiny steel button with brown thread. The repros were made for the Saving Private Ryan movie and are actualy more expensive to purchase due to their rarity and the fact that they do not leak!!! they are sought after by reenactors. Chances are you will not encounter one as they are too expensive to reproduce.

hmm i didnt know that marty, thanks for the information. i really dont see the point in repro splinter zelts as there are so many originals floating around at reasonable prices. it would probably cost more to produce a repro than its worth. i use original zelts all the time and they have withstood many a rainstorm so i dont see how the leaking thing is motivation to buy one. maybe some people just dont realize how strong the originals really are.

If I remember correctly 1944 Militaria just got in a batch of repro splinter zelts. However, as many have said, they are higher than good originals.
