Wooden Box for personal effects?

Hello,

Has anyone ever seen a box like this? This is the only photo and info I have and per note it's for soldier's personal effects to be sent home in. Box is only 10"x6"x5" so wouldn't hold much. In my many years of collecting I've not come across such. Has anyone else? Thanks for any comments.

I go back as far as you and I have never seen one before.
Can any one ID a unit to that number?

I don't have box but owner would likely sell. I just don't know anything about it so haven't chased it.
