    Hello,
I think the Styrian gaiters were statutorily intended for mountain SS troops. Units of the Wehrmacht Heer mountain, tended with strips of puttees or gaiters.
    Good luck.

      Grüß Di' Yves und Bergkameraden,

The Styrian Gamaschen that the Heer used are different from the ones that the w-ss used. If you look at the few clear photographs of w-ss Gebirgsjägers...especially the Handschar...you can see that they are using a simplified version of the gaiter with only a leather strap that goes under the boot at the instep and a hook at the front for catching onto the boot laces.

One must also realize that these types of gaiters come from the civilian mountaineering and skiing realm.

      Berg und Ski Heil,

      Patrick

        styrian gaiters

In my opinion, there are two types of Styrian gaiters. One for walking in the mountains, including the part that goes under the shoe is made of metal, and that described by using the service or parade, including the part that goes under the foot is leather. I myself these two models can be seen in a magazine article uniforms.

        cordially
