Need help IDing a German Canteen.....

This came in this week and it is the first one I have had like this. It appears to have a bakelite cup and screw on lid. I don't see any maker marks on this one and was wondering it's age. Is WWII or newer?? Any help would be welcomed! Mike

    Hi

Unbotton the cover a bit and look for the makers name and year on the neck of the bottle.
Sometime a inkstamp is visual on the flap of the cover near the click bottons?

    Regards

    Kim

Mike its hard to say but it could look like MN its still a code but not with a corresponding Maker entrance in Pawlas code book.

The codes was introduced when the War was started in 1939 first as a single letter code later two and finally tree letters and the letter code indicate who the maker was and in addition to the code you find the year here 40 means 1940.

            Hope you understand my English

            Regard

            Kim

"MN" is a code found on both canteens and messtins. That is the earliest manufactured MN item that I've ever seen before, though. Most are usually late (44-45). Can't help you with the manufacturer though.

As Jack said, 'MN' is a perfectly legitimate maker of water bottles. And, they were producing bottles early, pre war.

John, that's interesting. The few '45 dated canteens and messtins that I've seen over the years are usually also stamped "MN". They must have been one of the last factories left standing by the allies as it would appear that they ran through the end of the war.
