    Food Container???

I was at a militaria show last year and one of the vendors had what he called an "Essentrager". It was one of those food containers with straps that the Germans carried hot food in on their backs.

Anyone know the correct name for these (my German is extremely limited)?

Thank you Francois!!! If I was able to post pictures I would show the one I saw at the militaria show. Wish I would have bought it, the guy wanted only $50 for it (although I believe it was post-war; it also had the hinged lid).

Does anyone know the German name for these things? I still don't think Essentrager is correct.

Dubar, firstly did it have ridges? secondly, would you happen to be a member at the sixth division?

Yes and yes!!! If I'm not mistaken, you might have told me that the one I saw was post war??? It has 3 half-round "indentation" rings around the container.

hey dubar, its hohen.inthehood. yes i remember you asking about this at the sixth and yes the container was most likely a postwar one.i have heard that the type with the ridges was used Very late war though so it couldhave been a late war can. if youre looking for some i can probably get an original soon but im not sure what the cost will be. it wont have the straps though. a friend of mine also has the postwar type with straps for sale if youre interested.
