    Early frog with retaining strap

    Hi, I wanted to show a frog I just got that I'm happy with...Brass rivets, and retaining strap. I haven't seen one like this before has anyone else? Maker marked A DAHL BARMEN 1935. It is also nicely marked to a machine gun unit...2/MG 31 1 I like the brass rivets too bad the stup on the strap isn't also.

    this is a nice well marked early frog. Retaining strap was added later to conform to the new regulation adopted in 1939....

      Thanks. Really? It was added later, looks to have always been there...I'll get a pic up to show the inside...hmmm I thought cavalry used this type frog earlier.

        Hello again,
        So far, I have never seen a retaining strap factory sewed that was not taken between the front and back leather part. As you can see on yours, the strap is added by the means of an incision in the front part...typical of added retaining straps (one way they used to do it)

            I have rarely seen one which retained its strap all these years. Usually when i see one, the strap has been removed. Another giveaway that it's been added is the steel stud. At this time (1935) it would have been in brass (with the last remaining studs at the bottom of the case) or in aluminium. Steel was introduced later for this kind of equipments...
