Gebirgsjager Shelter Quarter?

I have had this for about 15 years, and I finally dug it out to ask if somebody can help me identify it. In the mid-90's a fellow collector thought maybe it could be some kind of a mountain troop shelter quarter or tent item of some kind. Not really sure what to call it?

It definitely feels like the same material windjackets are made of, and it has one side that it that kind of windjacket color and the other side is white.

It's roughly 4 ft. x 4 ft.

I realize that this could almost be anything, may be post war, or may or may not be German. Just wondering if anybody recognizes it, before I get rid of it or use it as a paint tarp.

It is marked "31" in ink. This is the only other mark on it.

I do not know if it is German , but from these round stamps , I would say French army WW1 IMO.

Hi Blair, are there two drawstrings, which form an arc? And does it have more wooden toggels, like the one you show, all down one side? And does it have a hole at each corner to take a peg?

I am thinking it is Russian. But the button on the reinforced patch is odd as are the markings?

Yes to all of your questions. It does have 2 drawstrings which form an arc, holes for pegs, and many more of the small wooden toggles all along the edge.

So maybe this is Russian?

Hi Blair, I was on the right track, but the full credit for the ID does to Robert. Seems it is a Polish version of the Russian "Plash". The button is the only difference I can see. Aside ink stamps.

I have not seen a Polish version before. The button is certainly not present on Russian ones.

The colour variation is possibly down to fading. I know from Russian ones that they fade pretty quick with the exposed side bleaching out fast.

Think of me over the next two weekends after this, as I will be sleeping under one of these They are a great bit of kit.
