    white painted Verbandkasten; any thoughts?

    Hello to all

I have been offered this white painted (not white-washed!)second model verbandkasten, for a reasonably price.

Now, I know it is very hard to judge from these pictures, but does the color looks original to you guys? Does someone every seen this on original ware-time colored pictures ? ( am I asking to much)
It is very well possible that this has been re-painted after the war, but the inside seems to be untouched...

As you can see from the first picture, there are 2 shades of white paint ( especially around the red cross), could this due to the fact that it has been touched up post-war? I image that the first layer of white paint, which is rather turning beige, is original?

    any thoughts are highly appriciated

    cheers

      Jan,

IMO this has been overpainted and after that no longer been in use by the Wehrmacht. These were always the normal Feldgrau with the Red Cross in a white circle.
The painter could have tried to leave the original Rec Cross sign intact as much as possible and paint around it.

Furthermore, the contents s*cks. The interior has to much rust. I'd say, leave it and wait for a nice untouched one.

        Bart, thanks for your replie

Now, I have already 2 nice kasten with their original contents ( both the first and the second model), but I would have bought this one because of the color. If original it's nice for a small 'Sani-display'...I agree that it has probably been re-painted after the war.

The guy is asking around 40 Euro

        cheers

I don't think there is anything 'wrong' with this Verbandskasten. I have seen a few 'overpainted'. It is the vehicle type so it was probably painted to match the rest of the vehicle in winter months.

The price, for the box and contents is great!

Good find, mMn (meiner Meinung nach....)

Eric, thanks for your opinion. I'm very aware that these boxes were overpainted during wintertime, the problem is if it is original or not. I know that the pictures are poor and that ' handling ' this piece yourself is needed ( and still...). You're correct about the price if original, but if it is post-war re-painted...
The contens isn't really that great, mostly there are loose bandages without their packung. The only interesting item is the cilinderbox of brandkompressen, which seems to be unopened...

            Anyway, I took the risk

will post some additional pics when it arrives

            cheers

Here is mine for comparison. It no longer has it's contents and has had a hole punched through the lid for a padlock but otherwise it's ok and cost me nothing
It's painted tan (no overpainting) and the inside is a light grey, the wording is in black and sprayed over the tan as is the redcross and white circle.

sorry about the focus but i think you get the idea. The weld on the latches is very rough and there is only one handle.

              hope it helps

Nice one Simon, thanks for sharing it!

Any traces of the old color?

                cheers

Here' s an example of the early Modell 30 verbandkasten...dated 36. I still need to fill this one up with the correct contens ( like described on the inside paper)

second modell, most paint is gone but is it complete. I think the original color was dark grey. It is dated 1940

i will post the picture when I get home, but does anyone know why the Sturmgeschütz (original! I posted pictures of it on the Panzer forum) has a wood lined Verbandskasten. If I remeber correctly the labeled said Verbandsholdkasten. It was the normal box, just lined with wood. I suppose this might be for moisture???

Anyway, they are great boxes, with of with out content. I found two at the bottom of a river. Believe it or not, both inside were dry and original paint on the outside. Will also post fotos of these, too.

Yes there are a few traces of dark grey still showing as well as red primer.
