1 lt coconut canteen

I'm posting here a canteen on behalf of a friend.
I've just received the pics few minutes ago and I'm a bit unsure on what we have here: In particular, I'm not really convinced by the leather cage and straps.

The coconut bottle is larger than usual ones, and it is not marked.

The small alloy cup seems ok.

What do we have here guys? Something unusual or a poor assemble?
If that is the case, can you ID the parts ?

I haven't come accross a larger 'coconut' canteen before, and the large dome on the rear doesn't come accross as a typical WWII German feature. I'd expect that to be stitched. Is there any evidence of old stitch holes either side of that back rivet?
While we are at it - am I correct in thinking the Germans made these post war as well? If so, what were the markings - if any?

I share your concerns for the leather cage. It doesn't look german to me as well.
I will ask my friend if there are signs of stitchings but I doubt.
He also mentioned that the canteen isn't marked at all.

The rig looks to be medical issue to me, and the size of the canteen complies with that. What are the details of the screw-cap?

Here is a DAK canteen situated next to a post-war border guard canteen for comparison. The post-war canteen is by Heinrich Ritter, Essinglen (H.R.E.) and was maunfactured in 1955. All of the post-war "coconuts" that I have come across have been marked in this manner. The lack of markings on your example is puzzling.

Thanks for posting the later canteen I'd personally like to see any other information anyone has on these (oddball) canteens as I'm a bit of a fan of these, too.

Mark - This photo shows another type of post-war "coconut". This style (on the left) was made for the Bundeswehr, also by H.R.E., in 1958.

I will ask more photos to my friend. The cap anyway is missing.

Some people classified this canteen as "sani canteen". Besides the bottle, I am still skeptical also for the rig : shouldn't it have a large leather strap and a hook (like on the brotbeutel) on the back?

the owner of the canteen confirms that there are no markings.Not on the rig and not on the canteen. Cap is missing. He's been told that it's a tropical sani canteen, WW2. Anybody got documentation,period pics or one in collection?
