What kind of ammo can is this?

Recently received from my friend in Germany. It is marked with an eagle and xx 40, hard to make it out.

Looks like an M36 ammo box

This is a Patronen Kasten 36 as Gene rightly points out. It contained 150 Rounds of 7.92 Ammunition and was used with the Zwillings MG 34 system. A good picture can be found on page 143 of Die Wehrmacht Vol 1 by Ryton publishing.
