In the postings about dug up helmets in Demyansk area, there are photos of dug up shovel carrier with similar totenkopf marking. If I remember there is even photo of it in the mud while being found. Another one shows it after cleanup

Here is the thread in question about digging in Demjansk: http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=188618

Anybody who has the courage to sift throught the 100+ pages will find some similar skulls (if I remember correctly).

            They are not fantasy !

I know this is an old post, but I had to comment since most people say these are all “pure fantasy”. I searched the trend postings because I received, directly from the veteran whom I’ve known for some time, a 41 BYF Luger in a 193x (can’t make out the last digit) dated holster made by H. Eger & Linde. On the front flap is a Totenkoft Head stamp, similar to the one in this trend. I know mine is 100% correct and I can care less what it’s worth as I’ll never part with it. I’m sure there are many, many fakes, but they are not fantasy.
One side note: I was offered $1,800 for mine by a friend who is a Luger collector and knows of the veteran as well, he is jealous that I bet him to it, and kids me all the time about that. He did show me a photo of one being worn by an SS Feldgendarmerie officer. I can not remember the book title that the photo is in, but the photo (I have a copy) is credited to (Bundesarchiv Koblenz No. 146/90/15).

I am trying to research these right now, a friend just bought one on a hotel buy from the son of the vet. I know of one other that was purchased directly from the vet by another friend. So, I guess I know of two in 34 years of collecting.
              Best Wishes,

What's real and what isn't can often be found and authenticated in period German photo's and this half dollar size pumpkin head SS marking is authenticated in at least two photo's I know of, worn by SS Police. That's a fact.

The marking on the holster in question is in the correct position for these. To the upper right of the closure strap. This one is stamped fairly lightly or worn or both. From the poor but probably adequate photo's I would have to say it was not added recently and as such it is likely an authentic SS Police stamp original to the holster.

The belt loop repair IMO is so poor it would not have been done in Europe. Likely it was done stateside when the original belt loops fell off from being carried in the wet deer hunting. The condition is certainly not what most collectors have in mind when acquiring a Luger holster. There may be markings under this belt loop. May not be too!

Worth is hard to pin down. Most rare items are difficult to price just for that reason. There are likely no recent sales to compare with. And you must find the right buyer..one who believes in it's authenticity, knows it's rarity and is interested in acquiring a rare piece to extend his collection. Seems like a moot point here as the owner wants to keep it and so price is a mere curiosity.

I have had a half dozen of these holsters in my shop in the last 20 years..Not all of them authentic. They ARE faked.

One last thing..After looking at thousands of Luger holsters I don't believe the small DH in the middle of the belt loops is authentic. Just my opinion but I am not a believer.

Just wanted to add I have a mp28 pouch with this particular skull . I acquired in the 70's from a vet, inside the pouch were 3 mp40 mags. Early leather probably carried over to later war use. I have absolutely no doubts it's original.

A little food for thought,I have always noted that this particular skull is always found on only very early war or pre war dated leather .

I am glad to see some of the open minds and other stories that are legitimate. I have seen several item over the years such as the S+L RKs with the die flaw called fake to later be accepted. They were known by long term collectors to also be fine forever!
I will post pics when I get it.

                      Hello Everyone!
OK, I now have the holster. It is identical to my friends vet purchased one and the ones that are believed to be of period production. I have no doubt in my mind this is the real deal, here are a few pics.
                      Thanks!
