Leather box for what?

Dear all, can you try to identify this leather box? Full of Waamt, and bird.

Nicely marked, but some round object is missing from the outside of it. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

This little pouch once held a AMP Meter for testing electrical circuts etc. There is a section missing on the inside the held the meter in place...you can see where the stiching is (circle) was once a small leather strip to keep the meter in place.

These also came in Bakelite....my friend Robert in NZ has one is bakelite.
