    Granatbuchse 39 ??

    Hi Gary
Took to my books to see if I could come up with anything regarding your launcher. Looking at page 362-363 in Angolias traditions of the Army vol 3 there is a picture of a Panzerbuchse39 converted to a grenade launcher, one page shows the weapon with the regular type drallrohr without clamp but on the same weapon on a different picture the tube looks like yours. These weapons used regular rifle grenades so I think the regular launchers were adapted to fit the panzerbuchse

    Regards Sean

      Gary,
I have one of the grenade launchers like you're describing. The threads are narrower, and the cutout for the wrench is very close to the clamp base as opposed to the longer version. I consider it a manufacturers variation - it fits both my 98Ks and K/G 43s.

                Gary,

I found a explanation in the above mentionned book.
Your laucher is the first type. There's a picture of it in the Merkblatt 41/21 of 03.01.1942. The most common second type has a reinforcement (larger dia.).
The first type of laucher was modified because of material cracks caused by the pressure of the propulsive charge. That's probably the reason why the first type is rare. They probably have been modified by changing the barrel.

                Regards,

                FRANK
