      Gr******252;******223; Gott Sani Gary,

Though I couldn't make out the marking on the box, other than 1939, I think that I have figured out what you have. According to the book "Das Sanit******228;tsger******228;t des Feldheeres" you seem to have a "Sammelbesteck 39." Go to http://www.wwiidaybyday.com/ and look in the medical equipment section. It has a listing of what should be inside.

      Sani vor!

          Great find Gary

This looks indeed like a Sammelbesteck 1939. What is the real color? Is it tan or light green?

I recently picked up one Hauptbesteck 39 and one Sammelbesteck 39 in similar color.
It appears they have been re-painted once in green as originally these came in feldgrau. But the question is when?
The two are supposed to be "untouched since the war", maybe these were re-painted in the field?

Nice catch and good luck with completing it!

          Cheers

          Jan

Factory painted on the right and a light green repainted on the left.

I see that yours is missing the label inside. I can provide some detailed pictures so you can make a copy. Let me know if interested.

                Cheers

                  Hi Jan,

Yes I am very interested in the pictures! The case has been repainted to the same green yours has. I believe I can remove it though, so am going to try. From the inventory I took I am only missing six instruments so will have fun looking!

                  Many thanks for the help!

Send me an email so that I can reply with the pictures in attachement.

Yes, you could strip down the green paint, but you must be sure that it is post-war paint offcourse.

This is something I cannot say for sure at this point. Is the lettering and date on the cover painted over too?

At first glance, I had the impression that your box was rather tan re-painted (something that would make more sence then my green repainted ones).

                    Cheers
