Anyone into detonators ?

Some time ago I picked up the four types of detonators the Germans used.

I thought I'd share them with you as I always love Pionier Ausruestung ...

First the 1926 type

Sometimes detonators turn up, but almost never complete.

So here we go with the first type.




One of the keys is stored in the upper part. I is used to open the 'door' to get to the inner parts ...

The red marked window on top shows an indicator to show the detonator is charged.

This one shows the 'door' opened



Note the rim in the bottom side of the key for guiding the insertion of the key in the detonator.

This one shows the detonator in the carrying case



The second key (spare) is stored in the T-shaped part on the side.
The charge indicator can be seen by pulling back the leather flap on top.

The case is fully lined with felt.

The second one ... 1937

This is probably the best known type

Note there are two positions for the key. One to charge and another one to decharge

The model '37 in its carrying case



The spare key is stored in the lid. At the side under the lid a testing device is stored ...

Opening the flap gives access to this small device.



It has two positions, low and a high, to test for different amounts of explosive-charges.
The detonator has to be charged, the tester put between the poles and when the detonator is decharged the lightbulb lights indicating proper functioning.

Some great detanators, I have only seen the J Feder 504s a couple have surfaced on ebay over the past few months. What other pioneer equipment do you have, I'd like to see more photos. Thanks for some great info and shots.

The Model '39

On with the next model. 1939

Less known than the other models.



This one also has two separate slots for charging and firering the detonator. The silver coloured ring on top is where the spring is positioned. A spare spring is stored inside the case.
