MG pouch - Opinion ???

I have a pouch like that I bought about 1975. I have always been told they are very late war and so far have not come across any reason not to believe they are.

The scary part for me is that after looking at the profiles, I have owned this piece longer than most of you have been on this planet.

German border patrols used the MG42 again in 1948. I am not saying that the pouch is fake or postwar. I am saying that members should be aware of the postwar years and the manufacturing of equipment in these early postwar years, manufacturing based on original parts and/or manufactured on original wartime tooling.

Great comments, I agree 100%. This thread reminds me of the G43 pouch thread, they have beat that horse in the ground and still do not know for sure.

I have been at this collecting thing a long time and there is still much to learn. One common thing I see in new collectors, at least here in the US, is the reluctance in investing in good equipment reference books. Most prefer to sling a question out into cyber space and take what ever answer comes flying back. An old collector told me about 25 years ago that every dollar you spend on research material will save you hundreds later. So far in my experience that was very good advice.

i believe in these pouches.imo they are 44 45 manufactue and original.in the last 5 years i had 2 of these one also minty and one used.

Sorry in my opinion IT IS NOT ORIGINAL !! for me it is a fake pouch. Never seen and would never suspect to see such marking in original pouch.

This is a one model I still don't know what to think about. It is different from other presstoff MG pouches. It looks like thick cardboard rather than that flexible thing used on other items. All the ones of this kind I have seen (empty with rivets covering the holes) were mint, most of them undated. I don't think they are 1944 produced as I have seen 1943-44 presstoff pouches and they look different, the same as the 1945 'fuq'. Even produced in 1945, the 'fuq' pouches are complete, with wooden and metal plates and clip for the bolt, only lacking the pocket for the spanner and usable for both MG34 and MG42.

damn these are difficult and I would love to have a hands inspection.

there is a few point We should consider when looking at this last presented pouch.

- these stamps look to be placed before assembling the pouch - could that be a stamp from a cardboard batch ?
- stiching all around looks PERFECT - if this is a fake - then fakers who did that have the best machines and, unmatched so far in fake items, talent
- rivets look fine - yet they dont hold anything - no wooden plate

IMHO if I was voting based on these pics - this is a good pouch.

can We see some more details - like stiches on back, rivets etc in closeups ?

seems that my theory about stamps beeing sole markings for cardboard only is wrong. Yet still stamps were placed before assembly. maybe because this manufacturer was new to military production as He also put a company logo on it

Well, I'm glad someone has found that logo! I was wondering how good it could be . Now, why were these pouches produced like that? As we have seen in the 'fuq' pouches, production in 1945 didn't mean making uncomplete pouches.
