Field Desk?

I've seen several displays with what I can only describe as a field desk being utlized. A rather small, 2'x3', trunk that opens with the lid acting as a table/ledge, with several spaces divided for various use. It doesn't appear to be a free standing item, but would sit on another table or vehicle or?

Was there an official desk as in the case of the US forces, or was it more of a useful item built at the company/platoon level??

Any input or photos would be most welcome!

The items that got me to wondering were field desks I saw at FIG several years back at the Gebirgs' residence - but I was focusing on another project with my questions then.

The field desks that you saw at FIG were probably surplus Swiss Army field desks...which are very similar to the German type.

I once posted below thread with some questions about a field desk on ebay...didn't get much response back then. Anyway, it doesn't look at all as the one pictured in the H.Dv. Maybe a variant?

Jan - that is an interesting piece, perhaps a desk for higher headquarters?

I'll continue to search - for both German and Swiss desks, and will keep everyone posted.
