I had an olive green RFI 42.

I answered an ad in ShotGun News about 20 years ago that said "German Mess Kits $2.95 each" I took a chance and ordered 50 of them. They were all unissued HRE 43 and 44 dates, still wrapped in thin brown paper. All were aluminum. Wish I had sat them aside. I sold them off and never got more than $15 out of any one of them. I would imagine that they have appreciated since then.

my mess is L&SL 40 field grey repainted olive green

I agree with that : the small inner pot is post war

one existed during war and appeared at the end (44-45)
