I'm tring to find some more information about them. I simply love these equipment parts, something new for me and awsome opportunity for case study.


I thinking about small article right now. These tornisters become great opportunity for ilustration changes in German late war equipment from the most interesting side:- well documented, with ability to avoid post war or unknown examples or equipment with not clear provenance ( early BGS, NVA etc)

In your previous post you raised indeed good points which should need to get answers on.

The factory of Bollmann still exist today - still making doctors bags too if I'm not mistaken. Maybe a fluent german speaking member should contact them and ask if anything is available in their archives on these rucksacks.

Robert and others,

Small update about possible contents. Based on description in wartime manuals, these were delivered empty and only as part of a 'satz', so not strictly delivered as a single piece to a specific grade within the medical corps.

So,IMO, as no official packordnung existed and it was not reserved for a certain grade ( which is almost always the case with other pieces of medical gear), the use by whom and contents was IMO improvised.

Fellow collectors,

Allow me to bring this thread back up. Mainly to see if (newer) members can add more information and/or examples.

Most rucksacks so far seem to be made in 43, it would be great to see pre-43 dated examples!

I ask this as 41-42 dated manuals stating that these rucksacks were delivered together with tornister/backpacks. Rather logical thought as 44 produced tornisters are no exception.

No new information on possible contents has been revealed by me.

I was able to get below example for cheap.

It's a typical example of these medical rucksacks. Again, no red cross, but very faint traces are visible. I also think that many of these were used without red cross...

Interesting it's marked dny - As we know this 3 letter code represents Karl Bollman & Co of Tuttlingen, Württemberg - so again from this maker but also dated 43!

First time I see one of them marked in this way, other were stamped with full name of the maker. IMHO more than half medical tornisters and bagpacks were used without cross from obvious reasons
