Hello to all

Here's a so-called "Sanit******228;tsverbandzeug", which was carried in the field by medical NCO's.
Very practical and often stored inside breadbags/rucksacks or even inside a pocket of their uniform.

Its a small leather tasche. Inside there's a "Zwirntuchbeutel" which contains a selection of medical first-aid instruments. Apart from the thermometer (which is replaced by another instrument), it is complete.

This is a 40 dated example, made by Bollman&Co from Tuttlingen. This was one of the major manufacturers of medical equipement.

I'll add some pictures of my set as well. Unfortunately, I cannot decipher the stamp inside the leather bag as it is too worn. The only word I recognize is Sanitätslager. There are no markings on the outside, as compared to Jan's fine example.
Otherwise, and in this case, the white cloth bag can hold four items:

• A nail cleaner
• A straight scissor
• A thermometer
• A pair of tweezers

I am still looking for an original thermometer as the one I have here is post-war. Untill one is found, I will continue to display this one
It's not unsusual either to see swapped items from sets like these, but I would love to have a copy or have access to the H.Dv. 208/4!

About the markings: Could it read "DRK-sanitätslager", as these sets were also issued to DRK personal. Just a wild guess though, as it is indeed difficult to decipher.

Concerning the changing contents, you are correct. Nevertheless as prescribed in vorschrift 208/4, it should contain the four items like yours. Mine contains 7 instruments (tweezers, scissor and 5 other items of which I don't know the term in english).

Also, interesting the mention, my linnen inside-pouch has 5 divided compartiments (+ the little one) instead of 4 like your example. I must say that most of the Zwirntuchbeutel I've seen so far had indeed 5.

I have no doubt that both our 'Zwirntuchbeutels' are genuine and came with the leather case.

Or it's just a prove that little variations existed (depending on yop, maker, etc...)

DRK makes good sense here, Jan! I tried but could not come that close. There is also a mark below the text, but that is nearly completely gone (the only 'depot' I know by head is Babelsberg, but there must be more, with no doubt). Otherwise, I have also seen variations and even different colors (such as green instead of white).
As a sidenote, do you have H.Dv. 208/4 in your collection? I don't have a clue about the book's content, but always willing to learn

Indeed Laurens, these came in green too and even in brown as well. I agree that Babelsberg was a major DRK-depot. But as I'm not really into DRK, I wouldn't have a clue about other lager.

Unfortunatly, I don't own an example of Hdv 208/4, neither one of the others (208/II - 5 - 6 - 7 - 8 ...), not even copies . These are hard to find apparently.

But I suggest that you look out for following (pre)wartime printed work, "Das Sanit******228;tsger******228;t des Feldheeres" by H. Werthmann und W. Willecke (serie "Taschenb******252;cher des Truppenarztes, Band V").
A good basis to get familiar with most of the medical equipement (both personal as fieldgear). From pouches, bags, kasten to vehicles and other heavy ger******228;t...
As there aren't modern collector reference-books available, we still use original ones to learn from
