it is for a gasmask, but wich type GM= Gasmaske but Opt= Maybe for personnel who worked with optical equipment?

Seem to be a gasmask for use with the periscope.

I think this can did not hold a gasmask, but some kind of optical sight which could be used with the gasmask. It would be interesting to find out what kind of optical sight. Interesting can! I just saw on the label that there is an "einhaltsverzeichnis" (label with contents) in little print. Can you enlarge this please? Maybe then it will be clear what the contents was.

But it is made by Draeger - so maybe it is the mask, not the optics?

P.S. I think it is a kind of mask, because the first line of the instructions goes something like that:

"The opt. GM is to be used in connection with the filter socket of the GM24"

The content was an "optical gasmask", with some different optical diaphragms.

its a gas mask tin for use by gun crews on ships and coastal artillery crews.

Indeed a box for the optical gas mask of the Kriegsmarine. These were supposed to be used by crews that had to operate optical instruments like rangefinders, binoculars or naval guns (deck guns in case of a U-boat). They were probably only used in training as there isn't any recorded case of a gas attack on the sea or even in a harbor. The masks are pretty rare these days, the box sometimes pops up but the masks are far more difficult to get, very few collectors have one.
