    SS Marked Jerry Can
Not really sure on this one. The Canister itself looks original pre45 (Opener,Handle etc)
But what I find strange is the Runes are in wrong position and the 20L Kraftstoff also looks not stamped in in a straight Position. But the Seller stated it is the early Version...dunno?

At 305USD not really a Bargain.

I just sold my original SS Canister for 190EUR and it is in very good condition.

    Regards
    Andreas

If you look carefully you see baremetal where the paint is gone. If you look at the cannister of Andreas you see red primer on the spots the paint is gone. That is what I want to see! Red primer and no baremetal!

I never saw a SS Jerrycan with the runes horizontal placed. Not that I saw dozens of them, but I find this very strange. An early cannister? To me it seems a strange story. I think you must be very carefull with this one. They where and are faked by the hundreds.

      Greetings,

      Frans

        SS Cans

Friends of mine in the East and others I know who do a lot of buying there tell me time and again that the fake SS cans are 100% new made, not modified wartime cans. While maybe not impossible, it would be most difficult to emboss the metal after the fact and do a repeatablt, neat, believable job of it. Best study known originals in this case.

            Hi,
In 1994, I wrote a little article in the french magazine "De bello" about the fake SS jerrican.

The weight of a good one is around 4,270 kg (the copies are lighter). Under the paint (dark green or dark grey and never blue grey) you must find the red paint absent on the fake.

Looking for photo, soldbuch, wherpass of Sicherungs-Rgt. 1000 and Aukl. Abt. 1000

Here also a little article found on the net which compares a real one to a fake one.

Text is in dutch however, but you get the picture when you look at the pictures

                  Horizontal runes.

Hi, I saw a can mounted on a halftrack at Beltring with an SS can with the runes stamped horizontally, real or not I do not know, I was told by someone that they fill a brand new can with water freeze it then stamp the markings on it, would that that be feasible or not I do not know, I should think a tool maker would be able to make up the a Rune stamp and other letter stamps, who knows perhaps the original tooling is still extant?
