    Jerry can markings?

Hi, i have a couple of german jerry cans some are the standard "Kraftstoff 20" fuel cans and some that is exactly the same but with the markings "WTD" and "BMB" dated 1944 and 1943 So i have to ask: What are those with wtd and bmb for? and are they german at all? Hope to get some answers soon.

    Cheers, Ole

Hi Ole, those who bear the markings " W - arrow - D" are british ones. "WD" stands for "War Department". The arrow is similar to the german Waa-markings. The british had copied the german fuel-containers as they didnt have suitable ones before some german samples were captured - and that is the reason why those are nicknamed "Jerry-cans", as "Jerry" is the british-given nickname for germans.
Some dealers try to sell the brith. ones as germans, stating the "WD" stands for "Wehrmacht-Dienststelle"...

        Bmb

BMB stands for "Briggs Motor Bodies".

A car company in England that turned over it's production to various steel plate pressings during WW2. (Various types of British helmets are the normal items found attributed to BMB).
