    Hello

Sorry ,this cape is post-war. Wartime capes were mainly made of impregnated paper .
The one pictured appears to be made of some sort of plastic.
    Hope this will help.
    Regards
    P-Y

that maybe a interesting topic - maybe its time to make a final discussion about these

You are saying "mainly" made of paper.... - what about the rest ? - these not made of paper - what should they be made of ??

the tropical gas cape I have looks like vinyl almost - definetely not paper.

worth mention that the cape posted in question comes from a very reputable dealers - and my good friends from Poland - B&S.

of Course they may make mystakes..
lets talk about these P-Y - would appreciate any pictures of period capes - I must admit that my knowledge in this field is limited...

        cheers !
        mike !

some of them are not stamped - stamped only with OBEN and numebrs ( as one above ) some are ( as one below ) - with OBEN , number and markings as below made with white or black ink.

It would be very interesting topic if someone could post more photos of tropical gascapes. My knowledge in this topic is also very limited. As Mick said all presented here gascapes comes from B&S side ( I'm looking for tropical gascape for my tropical gascape pouch ).

              Hello

When it comes to reference ,there is very little out there concerning field equipments. We have zillion of books on helmets, headgears, uniforms, medals etc...
How many on field equipments or even personal items ? nada ,maybe a mention or 2 there and there ,but nothing else. The only serious work was done by J-P Borg and L Huart in the Militaria Magazine publication ,with a series of articles concerning the "Equipement du soldat Allemand de la Seconde Guerre Mondial"
Each soldiers were issued the gas plane and bag.
It should be about 200cm x 120cm , was made mainly of impregnated paper ,rubberized material (seen on original Tropical ones)) and synthetic tissue ,which were all treated against Yperite or other vesicant.
The true tropical sheet ,should be white on one side and sand color on the other.
If you have one made of plastic or vinyl ,it is definately post-war ,as these material were not yet invented.
I also believe that these have discussed on the forum before.
              Regards
              Pierre-Yves

                  Hello
...and you have a nice 100% original tropical gas plane , I have the exact same one ,except the date (mine is 43)
Yours and most tropical ones (all the one I have seen and handled) ,are made of rubberized material and sometime synthetic cloth . Also ,I have noted that ,all TK gas plane have all of their markings ,printed (painted) ,instead of the standart paper tag ,I believe the reason for that ,was condensation.
                  hope this will help
                  regards

                    Hello Pierre-Yves,<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o></o>
Why do you say « tropical » for Mike example ?
You can read on the last line Tp/ArK and I really think that Tp is for Tropen and <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:State w:st="on"><st1lace w:st="on">Ark</st1lace></st1:State> for Artik so this mark should indicate that you can use this cap in both hot and cold weather. You could find these marks on winter and summer Panserschreck rocket boxes !<o></o>
Thank you very much for you kind words about our works in Militaria Mag !<o></o>

                          Hello Laurent

                          Are you L H ?
Yes ,you are correct ,that is why they have the white side ,I only mentioned TK because ,we were on that subject.
Militaria Mag ,have reinvented themself these past few years and for the very best ,these articles are some of the best work out there ,concerning WW2 WH equipments I still have the # 1
