Now, I must confess I don't know very much about it, but I think it might be a postwar tin, but I don't know for sure. It isn't prewar. The opener is different from mine, which I think may be prewar. Also it isn't a lederfett tin, but is for shoe polish. My Lederfett can has the frog but no "Erdal" - it says "Froschfett" instead. How about a phto of what is on the sides of the can, especially price marking, if any?

      100 % original

      Hello Olivier

Your tin is 100% pre-1945 , wartime manufacture.
The frog does not smile ,which is typical of wartime manufacture.
I have the same one and mine is priced in RM on the side.
The cardbox one mentioned by dave ,was also produced by Erdal ,but solely for the army.
Your tin would have been from the civilian market . soldiers used them ,as some were found in trenches on the Eastern Front.
      Hope this will help you.
      Best Regards

Perhaps - however, the Erdal frog was pretty surly, and not smiling, until 1962 or so. Perhaps he was happy about the Berlin Wall? For a few photos, but not enough, check this place out :
http://www.markenmuseum.com/cms/FramesetFoyer.html and I hope it will take you to the Erdal page.

I have an old shoe polish tin that has the bottom made from very thin black bakelite, as well as one made from stamped tin.

I have been told by a collector of household items that the wartime and prewar tins didn't have the extra curls on the "r"...however - I almost think I saw an ad in Signal where the r had that curl. But I am not sure of anything...blacksmithing in 39 degree (C, not F) doesn't help your brain too much...ugh...

Here is a wartime ad - no curls on the R. My can looks like the one on the ad - the opening lever is exactly the same. Also it has the extra wording "zur Schuh-u.Lederpflege" underneath the "rotfrosch".

          http://usmbooks.com/nazi_shoepolish.html

Note also the one for sale isn't the same as the one in the wartime ad. Different lever, deifferent wording. However - I am pretty sure that the Landser from WWII wouldn't have noticed the difference...probably would rather have a full can of Scho-ka-kola instead.

            Hello

As I mentioned earlier ,this is a wartime ( or pre 1945) made tin ,as I have the same one wartime priced in RM.
If you look at the site mentioned ,they will show you the post-war made with the smiling frog . Production was halted in 1944 and resumed in 1953.
Now ,to make sure ,I want to see the side of the tin.
            hope this will help.
            Regards
            Pierre-Yves
