whats up with this frag sleeve?

hey Guys, Glenn here. I see this frag sleeve for sale and I say to myself, "is this the real deal". the makers mark and the way the squares are formed look good but the grooves and equal pattern throws me off as well as the position of the retainer spring clips. Im not into this one but I was wonding if any of you Guys ever ran across a similiar style. I know this is a common maker of these but the others of this maker all had the same exact quailites about them and were/are textbook. this one, even if real is definitely not "textbook". thoughts anyone. Glenn

Glenn I have to say it looks good to me the squairs do look fairly uniform but the raised edges on the squairs are a good sign showing it was scored whilst hot to aid fragmentation it looks almost like mine and would say it is the real deal
    are they asking silly money?

thanks for your thoughts Guys. this ones on ebay right now. I tend to agree as far as it being good but as I said, this ones not for me. looks to iffy and Im sure it will go for a decent price. Id rather pay more for one that has the qualities We all look for. retaining clips sure are in a strange spot. that just doesnt make sense to me. oh well... Glenn

Adam, good to hear from you, its been awhile. I figured you chime in.

          Glenn,

I have two frag sleeves the maker marks on mine are exactly where they are on the one you show and both are brb 44. I have shown both on the forum and they are OK in fact one is a relic still attached to the original head. I would not be too quick to let this one go if it is a reasonable price. The common fakes are OXO 44 marked.

          regards

Mark, I do agree this is probably good but can anyone explain why the retaining clips are positioned where they are, they are useless here as they are meant to fit around the bottom of the head. unlike a smooth sleeve that is springy. thats the main reason I dont dig the piece. Glenn

                Glenn,

I have been thinking about the position of the clips and it suddenly came to me. What is shown on the one you illustrate is the remains of the clips they actually would have extended down to the bottom edge but have obviously come away through corrosion or wear and tear. Unfortunately I am not at home so can not show a picture of mine but I am 99% sure that this is the reason that the clips look odd. Still an original piece in my mind.

                regards

Absolutely correct Mark. Here a picture to compare .The clips on Glenn's frag sleeve are on the right place but are just not complete.

mystery solved. good deduction Mark and thanks for the reference pic Maus. that settles it. it is a true blue piece. but still not for me as it is unfortunately damaged. I like your green frag Maus. is the tan one also marked and does it have raised square edges? Glenn

Glenn the tan one is also marked with an ink stamp and a little different from the green one.

Raoul, when can I expect to see a package containing a tan sleeve?
