German bread bag made of british webbing ?

    Hello everybody,

this breadbag was recently found in an old house in Luxembourg. Although the construction is similar to a standard german breadbag, the material used is much coarser and resembles the british webbing used during WWII (pattern 37, I think ?).

The manufacture is rather crude and most of the leather pieces used show signs of previous stitching.

I wonder if this breadbag could actually be the result of "recycling" captured british webbing by the germans. The other possibility would be that it was build postwar by a farmer, however, I wonder why someone would take all the effort to recreate something that was readily available at the time.

Has anybody ever seen something like it ?

    Thanks for all comments,

    Jeff

Hi Jeff, I have never seen anything like this before either!

You are correct on the webbing, it is British 1937 pattern by the looks of it.

                Cheers, Ade.

IF its made period - its private modification/creation

but I guess we will never find out who and when made it.

thing that troubles me is extensive rust on the metal parts - but no matching signs of rust on canvas there....

                    Very Interesting piece!!
I'am not able from these pics to judge the origin of the material but it's not really surprising..
We know the German used in a big quantity of Material available in the occuped country (Italy,France,Russia..)
But I've seen recently an M43 tropical tunic dated 44 with the lining partially done with british aertex and mixed with the classical german tropical lining...

                    Thanks to share this curiosity!

                      British webbing

I have seen a couple of Y straps made of british web material. Hard to say if they were originals. I have original Pionier bag with belt loops made of British web straps.
