Is this one of the grenades that were used for throwing competitions?

I've seen these for sale before so someone must know something about it. Anybody want to share their wisdom?

the only thing I can think of is a training grenade. I know those look different but I cant see what other purpose it would have. Glenn

I have to agree with Glenn on this one. This may be a training grenade. I have seen these before advertized as training grenades but I have never seen any thing in print about them.

This may have been made just to pratice throwing ect.....

The most common training stick grenades that I have seen that are confirmed all have perferated heads. The heads where painted red. The handles are just like their explosive cousins you could install a fuze and arm it and chuck it for a more realistic experience.

Here is a photo I found on the net.

Thanks for the photo whsammler. That is what I think of when someone mentions a training grenade. The reason I was thinking that the grenade I posted was a sporting grenade is that it is only good for throwing and is smaller than a real grenade. I do know that there were "grenade" throwing competitions at some of the military theme sporting competitions. I would think that if the military had a training grenade for throwing practice that it would be full size and a bit heavier. But of course I don't know for sure and that is why I am seeking assistance. Thanks for the responses so far.

good theory Steve. but I am at a loss. I will agree though that if yours is smaller and lighter than why would it be used as a practice. you would want the practice as close to the real thing as possible. so perhaps you are right. Glenn

                        Nice rigs Bill,

I had no idea they where still making these as late as 1944.

That BRB44 is a real gem with the pressed tangs to hold the head flange on.

                        Thanks for sharing.
