    SS marked shovel

    I picked up this shovel in Budapest last summer from a little antique shop. I've been told it's not German, have looked around, and I think it may be Russian, then recycled into German use (which we all know happened a ton, esp. early on). It's got the SS mark, then on the right it looks like 2? P?- I'm guessing PD. Also "MV" carved into the handle. Anyway, any thoughts? Thanks

    Hi, the shovel and cover are not WW2 Russian. Sorry I cannot tell you what they are.

      post war shovel of one of the eastern european countries - most likely..

      stamp on the cover is a fake...

      this one never was issued to germans in WW2 ..

        I did a little more research and found this online (only one source however). The dude was a russian dealer and had said that they were WWI vintage and were refurbished into the Red Army during WWII. The spade is a little different, but the overall shovel is the same. Any other thoughts? I'm stickin to the recycled-from-russia theory.

          With respect, a shovel is a shovel. But this one shown by you is very different.

          I would agree with Mikes's observations.

          The cover is loosely based on the Russian style, but that is all.

          As this came from Hungary,try and find what their army used. There is a good chance this is a local item from there. (It is a subject I cannot help you on.)
