    Canteen for comments

A friend bought this super canteen at a gun show. The seller thought it was HJ or political but I am sure it is an outstanding late war Wehrmacht issue example. My friend seems unconvinced so I am posting it here for comments/opinions. I like this canteen very much.

The cup has brown enamel inside and out and has no handles. I never saw a brown one before.

My favorite thing about this canteen is the late vintage brown leather straps complete with a very legible RBN marking.

The cap is red enameled steel; the flask is covered with a dark enamel. I believe it came this way from the factory. I have a 44 dated green enameled flask with the same red cap.

Last photo. The strap is the late war type that does not go completely around the flask. I think this type of late war brown leather equipment is quite rare. My friend would value any comments or opinions.

I think it is a lovely canteen . I have also not seen the brown enamel, very very cool and if your friend wants to part with it tell him to pm me .

As far as HJ goes I really doubt it. But that is just me.

Greg thanks for your comment. I believe all HJ canteens were commercially produced and would not have RBN numbers, I think these numbers were just for military issue gear. My friend specializes in collecting canteens and has a number of very nice ones.

I would be very glad to buy this canteen from your friend!! I absolutely sure that this canteen is very late army canteen. I have never seen political / paramilitary equipment marked by RB Nr !!! But I've seen some brown enamel equipment . Friend of mine have a brown enamel steel messkit ( I'm sure that he would be very happy if he only be able to buy this canteen from your friend ). I will post some photos of my friend brown enamel meskit If he only agree . 100% piece of army equipment !!!!

                  Canteen

No doubt on this one... 100% late war canteen. I think you can consider this one the final version of this item. The halmarks are the simplified harness, shoddy recycled material cover, and the short brown cup with no handles. Due to the quality (or lack there of) of the steel and enamel work, nice examples of this style are somewhat hard to find. You have a nice item there, particularly if you like late war items.
