They did not bother to paint the insides of cans! Think about it, why would one paint the inside?!? To make the mask harder to slide inside? To waste paint? To waste time? Just a quick spray on the outside and done.

What John says is right and makes sense, but the can looks not as bad as an idiot has done this tan /ordnance tan camo work. If they fake camo today, they do it usually the right and I have never seen a re-painted one with the inside done in our days, but I have seen many things -as we would think they are strange- done in the war by the soldiers...a closer hand in hand inspection would help most

Sorry, I do not like it either. As for DAK, even if it was era, that color is not really a DAK color. Tropical perhaps. DAK cans have a very distinct color to them.

              gas mask can

In my opinion it is not for DAK. Colour is tan-grey, some people, including me call this shade "WH-olive" and it was introduced in april 1943.It is same shade like on late war binos, ammo cans etc.
Like Kuli I'm not fan of this can. Coat of paint looks too thin, and not really old (stains of rust etc).
In my humble opinion this can was:1.repainted,2. kept in acid environment (plastic bag-well know crooks method ) to make rust stains...
