I think Kuligow is right on the money - its a set of straps for the hot food carrying can - futterkubel fuer essenholer, essentraeger, I forget what they were called. Nice find - the cans are usually missing the straps.

Wait - I think I spoke too soon...I didn't even notice that the hooks at the bottom end didn't exist - there are just rings instead. Now I'm scratching my head. Whether its for a variant of the can, or perhaps for a water jug or something, I've no idea. As the rings don't match in finish the black buckles, it could be possible it was modified to fit something else...yet they look totally unused. Hmmnn.

                  Hello,

Yes it's for a food canister. I'm sure.

                  Thanks, David.

(I look for an original Luft medical troop shoulderboards).

Thanks for your assistance in this question.Funny, on the week end I received another single strap which appears to belong to a Wehrmacht food canister as well, it is Reichbetriebsnummer marked and stone mint. All the other items which came with it from the same estate are also mint. Nice early bread bag, Labeflasche, sealed gas mask filter, Heeres-towel and minty M43 leather fiel belt...

I wish it would have been marked by the KM, but its an unworn M31 regular 1939 April made standard bread bag made by "Hans Deuter -Augsburg" -the company is still existing today, I remember my rucksack in the German Army was also made by Deuter (it had a label inside) :-)
